This reverts commit 421b592690.
The org.matrix.msc4143.rtc_foci property is indeed gone from MSC4143 and
Element Call v0.24.0 no longer reads it, but Element Web does not ship that
version of Element Call yet. v1.12.26 embeds Element Call v0.22.0, which
discovers transports through the well-known property.
That embedded copy cannot consult the homeserver's RTC transports API
instead: it runs as a widget, a widget holds no access token and the API
requires authentication, so its own discovery code skips the API branch
outright. Newer Element Call versions ask their host client over the widget
API (MSC4515) and Element Web already implements that side of it, but the
widget has to speak it too.
Dropping the property therefore left Element Web and Element Desktop users
with MISSING_MATRIX_RTC_TRANSPORT when starting a call.
The restored variables carry a comment about why the property stays, and the
changelog entry is rewritten to announce the revert.

Visiting the homeserver's root path used to redirect to Element Web,
but only when Element Web was the client the playbook installed. People
running Cinny, Commet, FluffyChat, Hydrogen, SchildiChat or Sable landed
on a bare homeserver page instead.
The wiring now builds matrix_playbook_public_client_urls — the public
URLs of every playbook-managed web client which is enabled, ordered by
preference — and redirects to the first of them. Element Web stays
first, so existing setups redirect exactly where they did before.
The URL is computed once and shared by all five homeserver
implementations, which each carried their own copy of the old
Element-Web-only expression. It honours each client's own scheme,
hostname and path prefix, so a client served under a subpath now gets
linked correctly.

Meowlnir (https://github.com/maunium/meowlnir) is a Matrix moderation
bot which speaks the same policy-list protocol as Mjolnir and Draupnir,
but runs as an appservice and can override individual policies coming
from ban lists you do not control.
Bots and their management rooms live only in Meowlnir's own database —
nothing in its configuration file can declare one — so the role
provisions them through the management API from a declarative roster
(matrix_bot_meowlnir_bots_custom), applied under the
ensure-matrix-users-created tag. Management rooms may be declared or
created for you; bots and rooms no longer declared get pruned.
Wrapper scripts for driving the management API by hand are installed
to /matrix/meowlnir/bin.
Meowlnir re-runs its configuration upgrader in memory on every start,
so a literal `generate` value yields a new secret per restart. All
secrets are therefore rendered explicitly, validation rejects
`generate`, and the configuration directory is mounted read-only.
Draupnir and Meowlnir both want synapse-http-antispam, which the
playbook wires up to a single consumer. The wiring prefers Draupnir,
and both roles fail the run when each claims it.

Jitsi migrated image publishing from Docker Hub to the GitHub Container
Registry, and the new registry carries no tag history, so this also moves
Jitsi to stable-11146-1. That release makes the containers rootless and runs
them with a read-only root filesystem.
`jitsi_jvb_container_colibri_ws_host_bind_port` goes away with it. Colibri
WebSocket support was removed upstream in favour of SCTP data channels, so
the Jitsi Video Bridge no longer serves HTTP at all and needs no
reverse-proxy routing.
The /_tuwunel namespace carries Tuwunel's ad-hoc routes (server_version,
local_user_count) and its native OpenID Connect provider endpoints
(/_tuwunel/oidc/...), which a reverse proxy must route for OIDC login
to work. Add public (enabled by default, like the client API) and
internal Traefik label groups.
LiveKit Server configuration validation now requires an explicit choice
between an RTC port range and a multiplexed UDP port, instead of
silently rendering the default udp_port alongside a user-defined port
range (which LiveKit ignores). See the CHANGELOG entry for details.

The exporter's configuration used to ship a leftover "myprefix" placeholder
as the metric name prefix, so the bundled Grafana dashboard (which queries
unprefixed metric names) could never show any data.
Metric names are now unprefixed and the namespace label value changed from
matrix to nginx. See the CHANGELOG entry for details.

The bridge could only be installed by self-building its source code,
and its upstream repository (on src.miscworks.net) has become
unreachable (the Internet Archive last saw it alive in May 2026),
making installation impossible. The bridge was also based on the
long-unmaintained node-kakao library and carried a warning that using
it may get KakaoTalk accounts banned.
The playbook catches leftover matrix_appservice_kakaotalk_* variables
and points users to the manual uninstallation instructions.

Matrix Authentication Service supports CAPTCHA protection (ReCaptcha
v2, Cloudflare Turnstile, hCaptcha) for certain operations like
self-service password registration, but configuring it required going
through matrix_authentication_service_configuration_extension_yaml.
Expose it via dedicated variables
(matrix_authentication_service_config_captcha_service, _site_key and
_secret_key), validate the service value and key presence, and document
the setup in the captcha documentation page, which so far only covered
Synapse and Dendrite.

Element Web redesigned its welcome page into a built-in component
(element-hq/element-web#33211, first released in spring 2026) and no
longer falls back to loading welcome.html. The custom page the playbook
installed had therefore silently stopped having any effect, and it was a
fork of an upstream file that upstream has deleted (its button icon
assets are already missing from current Element Web builds).
Remove the welcome.html shipping and the variables that only applied to
it (matrix_client_element_welcome_headline, _welcome_text,
_welcome_logo_link, _page_template_welcome_path), rejecting them in
validate_config.yml with pointers to the alternatives. Logo and
background customization keep working through Element Web's branding
options, which the new welcome page still honors. A fully custom page
can be self-hosted and wired via embedded_pages.welcome_url.

Synapse only generates thumbnails of local media at upload time (unless
dynamic_thumbnails is enabled, which the playbook does not do) and no
tooling exists to regenerate them, so restoring a backup left all
previously uploaded local images without thumbnails permanently. The
official Synapse backup guide recommends backing this directory up.

This is a major upgrade which performs a one-way database migration
and removes LDAP support upstream.
The continuwuity.toml.j2 template is re-synced with the v26.6.1 example
config. Notably, registration_token is now only rendered when non-empty,
because v26+ refuses to start when it is set to an empty string.

LiveKit v1.12.0 tightens TURN security: credentials now carry a TTL,
and TURN no longer relays to restricted peer CIDRs by default. The
role defaults match upstream's secure defaults and are appropriate
for typical playbook deployments.
Bumps the migration-validation gate accordingly so users are pointed
at the CHANGELOG entry on next run.

The bridge is now a Go binary with upstream-handled automatic database and
config migration on first start, so in-place upgrades on Postgres should
Just Work for users on the defaults. The lottieconverter sidecar container
is gone (bundled upstream), and the public web-based login endpoint is
gone (login happens inside Matrix now).
Upstream v0.2604.0 has a known bug in the legacy SQLite migration that
can corrupt data. The role detects legacy Python-bridge SQLite databases
(via the `telethon_sessions` table signature) and refuses to upgrade,
pointing users to switch to Postgres (playbook-managed pgloader migration)
or wait for the next upstream release. The guard is isolated in its own
`validate_config_sqlite_legacy_migration_bug.yml` so it can be deleted
cleanly once upstream fixes the bug.
Removed variables (all caught by the deprecation check in
`validate_config.yml` with actionable rename/removal hints): the entire
`_hostname` / `_path_prefix` / `_scheme` / `_public_endpoint` /
`_appservice_public_*` / `_container_labels_public_endpoint_*` /
`_container_http_host_bind_port` family (web login endpoint is gone);
`_bot_token` (old-style relaybot is gone, use the common bridgev2 relay
mode); `_filter_mode` (dropped upstream); `_bridge_login_shared_secret_map*`
(use Appservice Double Puppet); `_username_template`, `_alias_template`,
`_displayname_template` (templates moved under `network:`, new Go-template
syntax, exposed via `_network_displayname_template`); all
`_lottieconverter_*` variables; `_appservice_database` (renamed to
`_appservice_database_uri`).
Added playbook-time validation that catches legacy permission values
(`relaybot`, `puppeting`, `full`) in the fully-merged config (so overrides
via `matrix_mautrix_telegram_configuration_extension_yaml` are caught too),
with a mapping hint in the error message.
Other notes:
- The legacy sqlite->postgres relocation of `{base_path}/mautrix-telegram.db`
to `{data_path}/mautrix-telegram.db` now happens BEFORE the pgloader
migration step, so users who flip to Postgres as part of this upgrade
get their data imported correctly.
- The Ketesa managed-user regex for the telegram namespace is updated to
match both regular IDs and the new `channel-<id>` form used by bridgev2.
- `matrix_playbook_migration_expected_version` bumped to v2026.04.24.0,
with a new breaking-change entry pointing at the CHANGELOG section.

The companion role was tightly coupled to Synapse through shared tags, worker routing, and lifecycle ordering. Keeping them separate added coordination overhead without practical benefits, especially for parallelized execution.
This merges the role into matrix-synapse while keeping companion logic organized under dedicated reverse_proxy_companion task/template subdirectories.
Compatibility is preserved:
- matrix_synapse_reverse_proxy_companion_* variable names remain unchanged
- install/setup companion-specific tags remain available
Cross-role/global wiring is now in group_vars (matrix-synapse section), while role defaults provide sensible standalone defaults and self-wiring for Synapse-owned values.
